  • David Harraden, owner, creator and operator of North American Canoe Tour, Inc since 1979. Originally from Woodstock, Connecticut and a graduate from Nichols Collage in Massachusetts, with a bachelor's degree in accounting. David began NACT in 1979 and it has grown into the largest eco-tourism business in Everglades City. He has a passion for the Everglades and enjoys paddling with others sharing his knowledge of the ecosystems and exploring the unique backcountry areas. His spirit of adventure also takes him to remote locations in the world.

  • Sandee Harraden, Managing Director. Originally from California and a graduate from San Diego State University with a bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy and a Masters degree in Counseling Education. Sandee rented a canoe from David Harraden in 1990 to paddle the wilderness Waterway and fell in love with him and the area. She enjoys paddling, marketing, photography, gardening and spending time with her four grandchildren. She also enjoys the gypsy lifestyle she and David have created.

  • Polly Jacobs, Activity Coordinator and Resale Manager. Originally from Ohio and a graduate of Ohio University with a degree in Outdoor Education and Recreation, Polly has been with the Ivey House since November of 2005. A canoeist at heart, she enjoys the quiet still waters of the everglades, wildlife, photography, and painting the walls of the Ivey House. She dabbles into anything creative and hands-on.

  • Michael Jacobs, Resident Manager. Originally from South Carolina and a graduate of Clemson University with a degree in Travel and Tourism, Michael has been with the Ivey House since November of 2005. After a canoe trip to the everglades in 2002, Michael decided to come back and spend more time exploring the inland routes and uninhabited beaches that are only accessible by boat.

  • John Lewis, Naturalist Guide. A Michigan native and graduate of Michigan State University with a degree in Wildlife Biology and Forestry. After owning and operating Backcountry Outfitters, a backpacking specialty store for 23 years he now is semi retired. John enjoys traveling and volunteering for different National Parks throughout the United States. He has been teaching canoeing and kayaking for over 30 years. This will be his 6th season leading trips and guiding in the Everglades. He is looking forward to spending more time exploring the biological diverse ecology of the Everglades and sharing it with the Ivey House guests.

  • Dave Kochendorfer, Naturalist Guide. After an eleven year engineering career, Dave left the office world behind to pursue his real passion for the outdoors. He has been professionally guiding since 1996. He moved to Florida in 1998 and now migrates between winters in the Everglades and summers in Alaska. He met the Harraden's in 2004 while working for another outfitter, fell in love with them and their small family business, and came to work for them soon after. He has successfully guided Ivey House guests of all ability levels on canoe and kayak tours from three hours to eight days. At every opportunity, he continues to explore the intricacies of the largest wilderness area in the Eastern US. He would love to show it to you.

  • Tommy Newell, Naturalist Guide. Originally from Tennessee but spent his childhood growing up on an island on the Homosassa River on the west coast of Florida. Tommy's career was in the life insurance business and also included the ownership of two fly fishing shops. His love of the outdoors has provided him with many friends and adventures from Alaska to the Florida Keys and up and down the Appalachian Trail. Tommy currently divides his time between his summer fishing guide duties in Yellowstone National Park and his winter kayaking trips in south Florida and the Everglades National Park.

She is currently looking for new adventures in the swamps of Florida, and is eager to share all the exciting information that this splendid environment has to offer!

  • Kevin Allshouse, Naturalist Guide / Rental Agent. After a long career in the construction industry Kevin has been following his passion for the water full time for the last two years. He has paddled his canoe all across the country, from a North Carolina barrier Island to a California coastal slough. He has paddled class III water in the North Carolina mountains and worked as a white water raft guide for the last two summers.

  • Vickie Courtney, Front Desk Clerk. She is from Cincinnati, Ohio and met the team at Ivey House last winter while enjoying David Harraden's Skiff Assisted Paddle Eco Adventure trip. • Nancy Halstead, Front Desk Clerk. Originally from Columbus, Ohio, I am a Buckeye who hates the winter. I love to travel, sightsee and take hikes. I recently hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon which was a great accomplishment for me. I also bought a digital camera and I am excited about photographing the everglades. A few years ago, I spent one enjoyable winter working for David and Sandee at the Ivey House and loved the area, the weather and serving breakfast to the guests. I look forward to another great warm winter in the swamp and on the beach.
